C F C
When I was just a kid I'd go to town on Saturday
           F C D7 G7
And on the street I'd listen to the old blind fiddler play
C F C
He was close to no one though his life was almost gone
       F C G7 C
But to me he was my friend and always played such pretty songs
                                    F C
People dropped their nickels in his cup as they walked by
          F C D7 G7
Sometimes he would play so sad yet I just have to cry
C F C
Then one day I went to town to hear the old man play
           F C G7 C
But he was gone and someone said the old man passed away
                     F C F G7
I can still hear him playing
    C F
And when people stop to listen
         G7 C
He would say God walked beside you all the way
        F G7 C
And I'd listen to the old blind fiddler play
                             F C
A week or so ago one night I had the strangest dream
            F C D7 G7
I dreamed I went to heaven and I heard a million strings
C F C
And standing there I heard the music blow from heaven sky
                       F C G7 C
And for the first time in my life I saw the color of his eyes
                          F C F G7
And I can still hear them playing
    C F
And he shook my hand and told me
G7 C
Son I knew we'd meet again some day
         F G7 F G7 C
And once again I heard the old blind fiddler pl-a-y
