Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how ChordLines (“ChordLines”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and protects information when you visit https://www.chordlines.com (the “Site”). ChordLines is a free, read-only catalog of guitar chords, tabs and lyrics. We do not offer user accounts, and you can browse the Site without registering.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide. The only way to send us personal information is through our Contact form (your name, email address and message). We use it solely to read and reply to your message. Messages are delivered to us through a private messaging channel and are not used for marketing or newsletters; we do not build a profile from them.
Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our servers and service providers receive standard log data (IP address, browser and device type, referring page, pages viewed, date and time). This is used for security, abuse prevention and aggregate statistics.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information, and we do not sell your personal information.
2. Cookies and similar technologies
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies:
- Essential — a session cookie used for security (for example, to protect the Contact form against cross-site request forgery). The Site cannot function correctly without these.
- Analytics — to understand aggregate traffic and improve the Site. These run only with your consent.
- Advertising — to display ads and, where you consent, make them more relevant (see “Advertising” below). These run only with your consent.
You control non-essential cookies through our consent banner. You can change your choice at any time using the “Cookie settings” link in the footer.
3. Advertising and Google AdSense
We display advertising to keep the Site free. We use Google AdSense and may use other advertising partners.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- Where required, we ask for your consent before advertising cookies are set; if you do not consent, you may still see non-personalized ads.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings. For more options visit aboutads.info/choices or, in the EEA/UK, youronlinechoices.eu.
- Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
4. Embedded content (YouTube)
Song pages may embed videos from YouTube (a Google service). We load a thumbnail first and only load the YouTube player when you choose to play. When you play an embedded video, YouTube may set cookies and collect data as described in Google’s Privacy Policy.
5. Affiliate links
Some pages and articles contain affiliate links, including links to Amazon. If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. Affiliate links do not influence the chords or content we publish.
6. Service providers and third parties
We rely on trusted providers to operate the Site, who process data on our behalf or under their own privacy policies:
- Hosting and content delivery (our cloud host and CDN) — to serve the Site.
- Google AdSense — advertising.
- Analytics provider — aggregate usage measurement.
- Amazon Associates — affiliate program.
These providers may process data in countries other than your own.
7. Legal bases (EEA/UK)
Where the GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we process data based on: your consent (analytics and advertising cookies); our legitimate interests (security, abuse prevention, basic aggregate statistics, and replying to your messages); and, for Contact messages, steps taken at your request. You may withdraw consent at any time.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR, California’s CCPA/CPRA, or Brazil’s LGPD), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of your personal information, to object to processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent. Because we do not require accounts and keep minimal data, we may hold little or no personal data about you. We do not sell personal information; some sharing of advertising identifiers via cookies may qualify as “sharing” or “sale” under certain laws, which you can control through the consent banner and the opt-out links above. To exercise your rights, please contact us.
9. Data retention
We keep Contact-form messages only as long as needed to handle your request and for a reasonable period afterward. Server and analytics logs are retained for a limited period for security and statistics, then deleted or anonymized.
10. Children’s privacy
The Site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13 (or under the minimum age required in your country, such as 16 in parts of the EEA). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us.
11. International data transfers
We and our providers may process and store information in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, may provide a more prominent notice.
13. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, please reach us through our Contact page.
